North North North

North North North

We got back on the road again, to Awanui and got on to Highway 1. We stopped by in Houhora which had the most northerly Tavern in New Zealand! So we both had a lovely cold beer in the hot sun before stocking up on drinks to take to Cape Reinga as it was also the only Liquor Store this far north. As we sat outside Mikko noticed a huge fern tree, not only that but…at the very top was a traffic cone! Yup! So we spoke to a local who happened to be Scotish, he told us how it got there, a young local lad got quite drunk and climbed the tree with a traffic cone haha, the tree was so thin at the top it was swaying around when he climbed it. The best thing is it’s been there for a year! Maybe he tied it on somehow, it’s the funniest random thing I have ever seen. Well, we were all stocked up on food and drink so carried on with the rest of the journey up north.
