Fun on the Sand Dunes

Fun on the Sand Dunes

Well, we live 10 minutes drive from the beach, so why not make the most of it.
So, we found out there was a motor cross track down to the sand dunes. So, we took the quad bike out for a little spin, up, down and around, it was quite a thrill indeed! I got a little nervous as I took control, but I soon got the hang of going up the bigger hills. Going down, was quite something, I felt like I was going to topple over like a big stack of Jenga bricks but it with Mikko’s encouragement I was totally loving life.
The next weekend… we went to the dunes with Logan, Kev his 4x4 and the dirt bike. The 4x4 pretty much takes any route; any will conquer pretty much any sand dune!
The next weekend after that….we went to the dunes with Logan, Kev, his 4x4 and his fishing rod. We drove all the way to Pouto point, near the Kaipara Harbour. The ocean was as calm as ever, and we could see South Head and Woodhill Forest in the distance, which is just near Ototoa Lake, the lovely place we visited on our travels around Helensville. A short while after, we headed back down to Glinks Gully and took a path up to the dunes, where we saw a young seal sunbathing in front of us, he didn’t want to move, so we got out of the car and he gave us a growl and disappeared off into the bushes.
Not long after that, kev got the fishing rod out and hooked it to the front of the 4x4. After an hour or so, we had something! Oh, gosh wow! It was a sting ray! That’s a first! Pretty cool to see, and of course the best feeling in the world..letting it go free : )
