Harvest Break Up Party

The Break up Party

Every year, once the Harvest has finished, the boss's have a party at the farm. With all the alcohol you can drink, and all the food you can eat! GOOD TIMES...

Mikko's Birthday

Mikko’s Birthday

Luckily it fell on a Saturday, perfect!  I firmly believe, not to work your birthday! I had a mad dash to the shops after work to get his presents, and wrapped them all, just in time. I bought him some new boardashorts, shirt, and phone with international calling credit to call his family. Oh and his favourite thing of all….Liquorice!

So by 9am we were at the beach house to also celebrate Phillippa and Ryans birthdays! Unfortunately the rain stopped our plan of a party at the lake. But we didn’t lose faith, and by 10am Mikko went for a birthday surf with some of the guys, whilst the rest of us had Tequila mmmm…yum! Short while after we went with Logan to the takeaway and Liquor store to stock up for the day ahead, which took a while as we were waiting an hour for Margot & Fred the French couple. Ooh Decisions, Decisions eh! We eventually picked up our delicious greasy burgers then headed off to the Tavern, for birthday drinks! Wooo! Chris was already asleep covered in doodles, the Irish girls were forming a tribe with the elderly Maori women and Logan was buying us weird but delicious chocolate type shots, you wouldn’t think they had alcohol in! It was time to test our skills at Billards, Mikko won twice, and I lost poorly, but in my defence I have never played it before, I have a natural talent for Snooker and Pool though! J

Luckily the Tavern wasn’t too far from the Beach House, BUT we forgot about the key! Oops…  Luckily enough, the bathroom window was open so I climbed through and opened the front door… success! Later that evening we went to the other beach house for a party, Sam went crazy for booze and started crying, Harley was giving insults as usual and pretty much told him to man up, and me and Mikko went for a mission up the cliffs, as Chris said there was a narrow path up there, and its beautiful…He wasn’t kidding! We could see everything! There were two parties happening down there, the 4wd’s were cruising around on the beach, and the sky was filled with stars and a full moon. No one could see us, all people could see was flashes of light from our camera, but I think Phillipa thought is was some kind of UFO!

The next morning turned out to be a nice day so we headed to the Lake, we was all feeling ill, some worse than others, not just the drink, but a few of us had a weird fever and cold which had been going on for a week or so. Anyway, Hayden & Harley soon arrived with the boat and the weightboard and it was time to begin. Mikko was the first to begin, and oh boy he made it look so easy!

Kai Iwi Lake

Kai Iwi Lake

It was our first weekend off and we took a trip to the Lake, not far away. The Lakes we have seen so far have been beautiful , so it was an opportunity we couldn’t miss out on. But this lake was….extremely cold! It was like jumping into a plunge pool! Ok, not quite, but it was cold. Never the less I stayed in the water and took the surfboard out for a little paddle!

Glinks Gully

Glinks Gully

This is the place I finally got courage to get back in the surf! And it was amazing! It was the best day! For six whole months I haven’t been, and a little daunting with Mikko’s surfboards as they are much smaller than my 7ft minimal. But with his help I did it, and finally got the technique of duck diving with the board. Nothing will stop me now!!

The two beach house’s are in Glinks Gully, and is where the other backpackers from work stay. We were contemplating staying there, until we realised it’s $100 each plus a 20 minute drive to work. So we stayed at the farm…for free!! Bonus! We went to the beach house at weekends as it was by the beach front, good for surfing, sunbathing, using the internet and a good place to party.
