Winter Shenanigans

Mid-winter warmer

It was a beautiful weekend in winter, warm sunny day, little wind and no rain. We have just discovered a canoe at the far end of our farm, just by the river. It’s pretty old, so we give it a whirl around in the river and good news, it doesn’t sink!
Off we went on our expedition across the Kauri coastal river!

I made captain for the duration of the first outing, and managed to steer through the rapid movements of the ocean waters, and soon the end was in sight. We cruised over towards the rice grass, and drifted forward until we reached our chosen destination….the pub!

Our neighbour…. (the closest one) has orange &  mandarin trees! So at the weekend we collect oranges for us to munch on. They are so tasty! Fresh from the tree and fresh as can be!

It’s difficult to explain his job, so I am dedicating a blog post for him and his job! So I followed him around to take some snaps of him at work! He is a multi skilled, farmer and maintenance man!

Time for a spot of gardening!

Our Garden

We decided a few months ago, we wanted our own tree, and now we have a home, it is the perfect place to plant it, we can watch it grow and tend to its needs!

After looking around the garden centre for a short while, we both decided on a Chinese Toon Tree. It looked like a walking stick but we are hoping it will progress, and turn into a lovely leafy tree!

So let’s wait and see…

Oh, how time flies…

Today is the 06/07/2011! It’s mid winter! Lovely warm day, and we have now officially been in N.Z for 6 months!
